What about East Carolina made you want to apply and eventually commit to the school?

When I was exploring schools, I knew I wanted to attend one far from home so that I would have more of an opportunity to grow as a person. East Carolina’s campus was amazing each time I visited, and the location was perfect. Everything the school offered aligned with what I was looking for.

What about the nursing field excites you?

I want to go into nursing because I want to help people in need, especially when they are in a dire situation. In that way, I feel like I can make a real difference in their lives and change their lives for the better. After graduation, I hope to work as a nurse in the emergency department or on an intensive care unit.

What will you miss most about high school?

I always loved prom season at Salem. Some of my favorite memories are of my classmates and me planning the dance and getting the halls ready for all of the prom festivities. And, of course, prom itself was unforgettable!

How did you stay involved as a Salem High School student?

In high school, I was involved in the Environmental Club, Ambassador Club and Student Council. I also played on the basketball team for a few seasons. One of my passions is volunteering, so I spent a lot of my time outside of school fostering puppies, working on beach and road cleanups, and rescuing horseshoe crabs.

How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and a student?

Without the Foundation, attending East Carolina would never have been possible. And for that, I will be forever grateful. I’ve also had the opportunity to connect with other Salem High alumni who have shared invaluable advice about the college experience. I feel so energized to dive into my nursing program knowing I have such a strong and stable support system cheering me on.
