Get to Know Forman Scholar Zoe Eldridge!

With a mind for numbers and equations, Zoe is beginning a degree in mathematics as a first-year student at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Learn more about Zoe and the plans she has for her college career.

Have you always known you wanted to study math in college?

I always loved the subject in high school, and I think I would enjoy a career that involves it. Right now, I’d like to go into the actuarial science field after graduation. If that doesn’t work out, I haven’t ruled out becoming a high school math teacher.

What types of activities were you involved in as a Salem student?

I was heavily involved in Student Council, working with my classmates after school and during my free periods when I could. My favorite memories are of my fellow members and me decorating the halls during second period. I also was involved with Lighthouse Ministries, which offered me many volunteer opportunities. I tutored second graders in reading, worked at a community garden, and supported other projects like soup kitchens and the Salem Day Parade. Finally, I worked on stage crew for three shows at SHS.

What excites you most about the college journey ahead?

I’m most excited about living on campus and meeting new people through the organizations I join. I’m also looking forward to working on campus and making even more connections with students, faculty and staff. While college classes seem daunting now, I know if I set enough time aside to focus on my schoolwork and take advantage of the support systems I have in place, everything will turn out alright.

How do you plan to make the most of your experience at Rowan?

I’d still like to volunteer. I don’t know of any specific volunteer-oriented organizations yet, but I’ll be on the lookout for opportunities to pitch in and help make a difference. In addition, I plan on joining the Actuarial Science Club to learn more about the field and gain an additional support system as I take more and more classes on the subject.

How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and a student?

The Foundation continues to motivate me to be the best I can be. Every member of the Foundation’s staff wants to see me succeed, and knowing this helps me overcome my fears of college and gives me the drive to work as hard as I can to make them proud.
